Mastek employs around 2500 employees, total 8 subsidiaries covering US, Europe & Asia and a turnover of over 500 Crores . Founded by him & his other 3 colleagues 22 years ago; Mastek went public in 1992 & also became the first company in India to introduce ESOP to its employees. Mastek is not only assessed at SEI CMM model's Level 5 in software processes but is also the First IT company in the world to be assessed at SEI People-CMM model's Level 3. Mastek has a Global Joint Venture with Deloitte Consulting , one of the world's Big 5 consulting companies.
Ashank's vision, values focus on building win-win Relationships which has helped Mastek to reach new heights of business success & industry respect. He has created an atmosphere at Mastek in which every individual has personal space and the freedom to take decisions.
Personal Achievements
A Bombay University rank holder in B.E. (Mech.) in 1972, he received his M.Tech (Mech.) from IIT, Bombay in 1974. After a 3-year stint as Design Engineer in Godrej & Boyce Mfg. Co., Ashank has completed his PGDBM from IIM, Ahmedabad in 1979.
He has been a recipient of “Distinguished Alumnus Award” awarded by IIT Bombay in recognition of his outstanding contributions as a software entrepreneur, and for his visionary leadership in global positioning of the Indian Software Sector. He has been similarly honoured by Rotary Club & few other organizations. Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay has recently conferred the “ Distinguished Service Award ” in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the progress of the Institute.
Contribution to Indian Industry
One of the founders' of National Association of Software & Services Companies (NASSCOM) , he has been associated with NASSCOM since 1988 as Executive Council Member and Chairman's Council Member. He was heading NASSCOM as the Chairman in 1996/97 . During his tenure as Chairman he made significant contributions to the IT industry and successfully led delegations worldwide to promote Indian IT Industry. Ashank was involved in many major initiatives taken by NASSCOM, including the recent one, to define new vision and strategy for NASSCOM.
He takes an active interest in the Industry affairs at the country level. Apart from NASSCOM he is the Committee Member of the Standing Executive Board (SEB) of Software Technology Parks of India (STPI). He is also the Vice President of The Western Regional Council of Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC), and a Special Invitee to the Managing committee of Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCI). In the recent past he has been on the National Council of CII & was associated with the SEBI committee on ESOPs .
Contributing Globally
He has also served as the Vice-president of ASOCIO (Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organisation), an organisation founded for the development of IT in the Asia-Pacific region. Ashank is the only Indian to be presented with the Honourable Contributors Award twice - in 1994 & 2004 - for making outstanding contributions to ASOCIO's growth in the past many years.
He has been invited by the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) to be a part of the six member global team of Zambia International Business Advisory Council (ZIBAC ). The ZIBAC team is asked to provide assistance and advice to the President of Zambia, Mr. Levy Patrick Mwanawasa, on best practices for attracting foreign investment to Zambia
Social Commitment
He is the founder member of a newly formed Society called “ Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship” (SINE) at IIT, Bombay . He is also a member of the SENATE in IIT, Bombay . He was one of the members of the Committee involved in Planning the Overall Vision & Direction for IIT Bombay 's IT school, now named as KReSIT.
He is a member of the Alumni Council constituted by Board of Governors of IIM, Ahmedabad. He is also the Member of the Governing Board of Goa Institute of Management. He is a Charter Member of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TIE).
He strongly believes in social commitment… to give back what society has contributed to him. He has been associated with Vidya Pratisthan , the Educational Trust in Baramati under the leadership of Mr. Sharad Pawar. Ashank loves to exchange ideas at various seminars and forums. He is actively involved in giving lectures on IT in schools / colleges / IITs / IIMs. He has contributed articles for publications like Express Computers / TOI / Business Today / Computers Today & other leading IT magazines in India .
Apart from this he is associated with quite a few NGOs working in Social Sectors.

Nancy Garrison Jenn has dual American /French nationality and is based in London , after having lived for 8 years in Paris . She has her own consulting firm which has been closely tracking the executive search world for multinational firms for the last 10 years after a 20-year career in international marketing management with Gillette, Revlon, LVMH and Warner Communications.
Mrs. Garrison Jenn has written 10 authoritative books for the Economist on executive search in Western Europe , Eastern Europe , Latin America and the Asia Pacific region. A new book called “Headhunters and how to use them” was published by Profile Books in April 2005.
