I moved to Levi’s last year in feb, looking after only North and then took over responsibility of west and east as well

Dr. S K Mahapatra
GM – HR, POSCO - India Pvt. Ltd.
Born on 25th August 1960, in Puri, Orissa, Dr SK Mahapatra received his Bachelors Degree in Political Science Honours from Utkal University, and with a National Scholarship he went on to complete his masters in Political Science from Hindu College with top honors from Delhi University in 1981.

He began his career teaching Political Science in College for a short span before migrating to a career in Personnel Management with Steel Authority of India. Joining as a Management Trainee, he rose to the level of Senior Manager within a short span of 13 years and while in service, he took brief sabbaticals to academy for educating himself in Social Work, Public Administration and Management.

He was invited to join the B’ School Faculty at the Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar in 2000 and he joined XIMB as a full time faculty in HR&IR, in 2001. During his Professorship of 4 years, he completed his Ph.D in Human Resource Planning under Utkal University, and also completed a prestigious consulting assignment as lead consultant partnering with M/s PA Consultants, Indonesia who were engaged by Asian Development Bank for designing a module on communication for Assam Power Sector Reforms. He also worked as a OD trainer for management development and worked on an unusual OD assignment to maintain high morale of scientists at a defence establishment continuously.

He continued in academics till 2004 November, when he migrated back to Industry, to head the HR function at Tata Metaliks Limited. He helped develop HR implementation strategy to double green-field production capacity and manpower productivity with a fractional increase in direct rolls. He also helped the company to acquire an existing brown-field production facility in Western India by successfully leading one of the most remarkable, trouble-free and seamless transitions in Indian corporate sector. He designed, developed and implemented innovative manpower staffing strategies to help the Company grow from a turnover of Rs.300 crores with 275 direct employees, to a turnover in excess of Rs.1,000 crores with about 750 employees, in less than 3 years time.

Currently Dr SK Mahapatra heads the HR department of POSCO-India project, which is the biggest FDI in India till date at US$12billion for setting up 12 million ton capacity - the largest single-location integrated steelworks in India. His portfolios of assignments include populating the project with quality staffing solutions.
